  1. use the Pythagorean theorem to solve this

    the Pythagorean theorem is A2 + B2 = C2  (A square + B square = C square)

    A2 + B2 = C2

    X square + 8.5 square = 12.6 square

    then  X square = 12.6 square -- 8.5 square

    X square = 158.76 -- 72.25

    X square = 86.51

    X = square root 86.51

    X = 9.30

    the answer is B

  2. sqrt(c^2-b^2) =9.3

  3. leg = √(12.6^2 - 8.5^2) = √86.51 = 9.3
