I know that solving for V you get to this point... 7=V(3/5-1/4) where I get stuck at is this translates into V*7/20... where does the 7/20 come from?

  1. This means that 7L=(3/5-1/4)V=(12/20-5/20)V=7/20 V

    so v=20/7*7=20L ANSWER

  2. V = total capacity

    V0 = (1/4)V

    V1 = V0 + 7L = (3/5)V

    V1 = (1/4)V + 7L = (3/5)V

    Solve for V:

    (1/4)V + 7L = (3/5)V

    7L = (3/5)V - (1/4)V

    7L = (12/20)V - (5/20)V

    7L = (7/20)V

    (7L)(20/7) = V

    20L = V

    Total capacity is 20 liters.

  3. Let capacity = V litres

    V/4 + 7 = (3/5) V

    5V + 140 = 12 V

    140 = 7V

    V = 20 litres

  4. 3/5-1/4=7/20,

    7/(7/20)=20

    7 liters is 7/20 of total capacity

  5. 1/4x + 7 = 3/5x

    7 = 3/5x - 1/4x

    7 = 12/20x - 5/20x

    7 = 7/20x

    x =20
