We put blue kote on the wound (it didn't bleed) and wrapped his leg. He walks better with it wrapped, but favors it a lot (of course). Could it be a torn ligament or pulled muscle, or could it be something more serious like a broken bone? He does put weight on it though. And what is the best thing to do for a pulled muscle? We've had a few people (no vets) look at him and say that it's not broken or he wouldn't be walking on it. Is this true? Let me thank you for your answers ahead of time.

  1. dude, call a vet.

  2. Blu Kote is an anti fungal - you have a burn.

Keep it clean and moist - use a burn ointment like if you had a rope burn - yes this is one of those times a people med is good.

Put gauze pads or - and here is a secret - a feminine pad on the ointment - be carefull not to rub or twist the pad/gauze as you gently wrap it in vet wrap.

Hon - it hurts like stink! Of course he will limp!

    Burns are REAL painfull.

I can't say there is no further damage for sure...no one can without seeing it - is there noticeable swelling? If yes ,and that swelling is not caused by a bad bandage job - which can happen to any one or because he was standing in a stall and stocked up - you might want to have a vet check him.

I'd give him stall rest or keep him away from horses that may make him move for a few days - so he can heal up a bit.

    Hugs!

  3. Vet? probably your best bet.  Might be like a sprained ankle.
