A rope ladder with rungs a foot apart is hanging over the side of a ship. The bottom rung rests on the ocean?

surface. If the tide rises a foot an hour, how long wil it take until all four rungs are covered with water?

  1. Never if the vessel is floating.


  2. Ha - is the boat leaking?   - It should go up with the tide ;)   That's a good one.

  3. All four rungs will not be covered with water because the ship will rise with the tide. The ladder will go with the ship, therefore it will not be covered.

  4. You know I often ask this question in regards to buoys. People say that the lake level went down last year, but the buoys never seemed to change. The water level is always at the same point on the buoy. Interesting. I must solve that question this summer.

  7. Until the ship is sunk.  The ship will rise with the tide.

  8. That all depends.... Is it a cotton rope or a nylon rope?
