However, Rooneys rugged influence in battling for the ball has rubbed off on him.  He did not do that when he first came to United.

But I agree with G Stokes.  Both would benefit from Berbatov leading the line.

He was magnificent for United, But at the expense for Rooney who again played as the main striker. Tevez and Rooney will both benefit hugely when/if Berbatov arrives. Tevez and Rooney are both 'second strikers' and need someone who will lead the line. Berbatov can do everything and I think is the only player who could offensively improve Manchester United. He is unique and would be a great signing and foil to Wayne and Carlos.
