I know after a certain amount of money you should slit it up into different banks and or different accounts. At the most, how much could I keep in one bank in one account?

  1. ~~Never put more than $100,000.00 in any one bank, then you will stay FDIC insured.~~

  2. Deposits are insured by the FDIC up to $100,000

  3. I'd go with about 75,000$

  4. More specifically, if you're form the US, the FDIC insures up to 100,000 dollars per banking institution, not per account.

So you could have an account like this:

    Bank A

    Account 1: 60,000

    Account 2: 40,000

    And you'd be fine.

But if you had 120,000 dollars, you'd only be insured for 100,000 in every bank. So you situation would then look like this:

    Bank A

    Account 1: 60,000

    Account 2: 40,000

    Bank B:

    Account 1: 20,000

    And so on.
