A scalene triangle is a triangle that has no congruent sides.

1. Use the information given in the triangle below to find AB, BC and AC.

2. Determine if the triangle is scalene or not based on the lengths of the three sides.

  1. On a piece of squared paper, draw the 2 axes of a graph. number 1-6 up the vertical axis and 1-6 along the horizontal.  Mark the co-ordinates 3,6 (A) 63. (B) and 1,1 (C) . Join the dots to form the triangle. Measure the lengths of the sides. I did it roughly without squared paper and it looked like AC and BC might be the same length, in which case it would not be scalene. You need to draw and measure it accurately to be sure.

  2. Use the distance formula to find the length of the sides. d=square root of (x2-x1)squared + (y2-y1)squared.
