  1. absence of evidence does not mean evidence of absence. there is a concept called the ghost of competition past, stating that there was once competition, but the species adapted to the point where they were no longer competing.


  2. No because competition may have previously occurred.  The present does not always reflect the past.

  3. he may find no evidence but that doesnt mean that it never has happened
