A shocker of a round from Tiger Woods
This is what Tiger Woods has been all about this season – so good in one round and pathetic in the other. This has been the story for the comeback man this year. It is this inconsistency of his that has not allowed him to win a major either.
After shooting a sublime four-under, 66 in the first round at East Lake, Woods shot a horrible three-over, 73 to surrender the lead.
As it stands, Woods is currently at T12 with one-under but the problem is that he is six shots behind the leader going in to the final two rounds.
To everybody’s surprise the veteran Jim Furyk is leading the Tour Championship by one stroke. Justin Rose is behind him with six-under.
Jim shot a stunning round of 64 to lead at East Lake. A victory does not out rightly guarantee the FedEx Cup for him, as he is not in the top five. Nonetheless, more than 90% chances are that he will be crowned the FedEx Cup winner with a victory.
“I didn’t play very good, didn’t hit it very good, and definitely didn’t putt it very good,” said Woods, after his 73. “I struggled all day”.
The Irishman, Rory McIlroy took advantage of Tiger’s slip, as he improved by a stroke from the first round. Rory shot two-under 68. His round was pretty steady, with just a birdie, bogey and an eagle.
"Is there any way to explain how you can go from playing really well one day to not so well the next day?" Tiger was asked.
"Yep," Tiger said with a slight smirk on his face. "Golf."
It seems that Tiger is trying very hard to shoot some low scores, that is why he gets one bad round in every tournament. In golf, consistency is the most important factor and that is lacking in Tiger currently.
Things are improving for Tiger Woods but he needs to sharpen up his clubs for the next two rounds if he wants to land in his third FedEx Cup title.
More importantly, it is for his benefit that he registers good scores over the weekend, as the Ryder Cup gets under way next week.
