A shortened NBA season will benefit Miami Heat – NBA feature
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is currently locked out over the labour dispute with the Players Association and despite of many negotiations, both sides are still gulfs apart from a solution.
The NBA owners and the Players union have so far been very strict in their stance over certain new clauses of new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The owners want to implement hard-salary-cap and less revenue share for the
players, an offer which the players and their union are not willing to accept.
The pre- NBA season has been already cancelled by the league authorities and now there are fears that the whole season can be in jeopardy.
As it stands, it is assurity that the regular season games will be affected by the labour dispute. Even the last time when the league went into a lockout in 1998, the regular season was reduced to 50 games. If such a situation
arises this time, it might be of benefit to last year’s runners up Miami Heat.
The Miami Heat are genuine championship contenders and qualifying for the playoffs, even in the complete season, is not an issue for them. If the NBA season starts late, most of the free agents will already be abroad to play for
the international league and due to non-contractual issues, they will be free to play for the whole season.
This means that teams like Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs, which need star inductions will have a thinner and much weaker pool of players to select from. This means that these team will
have to go against a resurgent Miami side, rearing to go after the finals meltdown last season, with approximately the same cast as before.
The situation will give Miami a clear advantage as they already have most of their bases covered.
This goes with the fact that the Heat are one of the most fit and athletic team in the league and when they will reach the playoffs next year, they will be fresher and hungrier.
All these fact and being a Miami fan, you have got to wish for a short season.
