Question:

A side effect of global warming?

Today is April 18th, right?

Puget Sound, Everett, Snohomish County....we NEVER see snow on the ground this late in the month--especially since it is so CLOSE to May.

And while we live in a convergence zone--we got 3" of fresh snow and we also got thunder and lightning mixed in as a bonus!

So is this a side effect of global warming, or just another example of extreme weather?

  1. I think the side effects of global warning are as follows:

    1) Water level of the seas are getting higher caused by the melting ice caps in the artic circle, it caused flood and drought

    2) The rapid changes of weather worldwide is regarded as a rare natural phenomenon due to the atmosphere is full of emitted carbon dioxide from moving vehicles, sulphide dioxide from industrial emission, when it gets heavier and it forms the acid rain. The acid rains not only harmful to our health and it reduces the production of agricultural products as well and it drives the food prices up by 30-50% in the recent months.

    3) What's more? The so called particulates of NOx, SOx, HxCy, PM 2.5, PM10, and TSP are bad enough to cause at least more than 1.5 million Hong Kong citizens contracted with chronicle diseases of asthma, coronary heart and lungs in this city of total population of close to 7 millions. We can recall the great killing fog of London in 1952 which had killed more than 4,000 in a few weeks. And the killing fog is named as the particulates nowadays.

There are more than one million Hong Kong citizens are required to visit the clinics, both private and public hospitals periodically. Every one contracted with above-described chronicles is required to take many different kinds of pills on a daily basis. There are more than 400,000 hospitalized Hong Kong citizens are awaiting to wrap up their lives one by one for being contracted with chronicles.

    4) The side effect of global warning is quoted from The Hong Kong Tuberculosis, Chest and Heart Diseases Association' report exhibited the Air Pollution Index (API) recorded from various parts of Hong Kong dated March 28, 2000. Central and West Region: 112, Central: 112, Kwai Tung: 145, Kwun Tong: 101, and Tai Po: 101.

CauseWay Bay: 147, Central:166, and Mongkok: 133. According to the World Health Organization's recommanded API is acceptable at 30, no wonder why the world famous weather scientist, Tim Flannary once described Hong Kong has the most polluted air in this world. I feel Hong Kong is getting more and more polluted each day.

  2. Celebrate EARTH DAY!

    =)

  3. I'm going to tick off a lot of people by saying this. I am NOT saying greenhouse gases aren't messing with the environment; but most of what we are seeing here is called seasonal shift. IF people would STOP to take notice, all the seasons are getting later. We aren't seeing fall until late november. It used to be you would see indian summer in early October. NOW you aren't seeing it till much later. Winter doesn't arrive until February. IF you've noticed.

This is why the past few years March and even April have been unseasonably cold.

We had snow last weekend. We had a nice sunny day on Friday and then Saturday it dropped down to like mid thirties.

I can't remember the exact number but every seventy to a hundred years the seasons will shift. Like I said though, I do beleive we have messed up the environment pretty badly, that only adds to the problems. I don't know if we can undo the damage we've done.
