Question:

A silly question for a hiring manager...

I have a nasty little oven burn on the top of my hand and I have a job interview today. I'm dressed totally clean and professional but I wanted to put a band aid over my burn. Do you think it would reflect on me positively or negatively if I was to use a funny band aid like s****. doo or mickey mouse?

I have a huge disadvantage because I haven't worked in like 3 years and the jobs I had before were only part time. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a job and I think the smallest thing can throw me off at this point.

I would love to read your opinion!

  1. I think you'll be fine. The interviewer might think it's cute. Make sure you show complete confidence and look them in the eye when answering. Best of Luck!

  2. Although I would like to think that it 'shouldn't matter', I realize that 1st impressions are huge.  If the interviewer has kids, then a funny band-aid would initiate an instant connection.  If you don't have kids, then you could score points for being fun and outgoing, which is good for a team-player position.  If the interview is looking for someone who will routinely and consistently show up for work, then the funny band-aid could send a message that you have kids hence will need more time off.  Hope this helps, and bestest of luck to you.

  3. Use a regular bandaid.

  4. I say go for the cartoon bandaid!

I am a Division Manager for a decent sized IT company and I like to see that people have a sense of humor and dont take themselves too seriously.  If you go in confident and secure, while sporting a s****. doo bandaid, it'll show that you are human and that you arent too serious; that you can have fun.

Thats my take on it anyway.  Best of luck!

    :)

  5. use liquid band aid

  6. Don't use a s****. doo dressing, use a normal one and don't hide the fact that you have a burn. It will instill confidence in you and the hiring manager will for sure ask about it. But u already have the answer- u burnt ur hand while baking - or not. do not focus too much on getting the job, just be your self and focus on the questions that you are asked in the interview room. Wish u all the best with the interview and the baking.

  7. personally i'd go with putting a piece of white gauze bandage over the burn, with a neat edging of either plaster or micropore tape.  it makes it look a lot more like you've sought proper medical advice and are therefore taking proper care of yourself.

a band aid is next best to that, but avoid cartoon/funny ones, unless you haven't worked in 3 years because you've been raising children, in which case you should be careful to explain that you only keep cartoon band aids in the house for the kids.

you're trying to impress them with your capability and maturity, and a funny band aid doesn't really do that i'm afraid.  there are plenty of times in an interview where a sense of humour is important, but you should use verbal humour and wit rather than visual gags - it looks more intelligent and professional.

  8. It depends on what sort of job you're interviewing for, or what the employer is like. If its a conservative company or industry (like a bank) I wouldn't do it. If they are a bit more relaxed and might appreciate the humor, I'd go for it. Good luck!
