DIY Network has a good site, they even include video's. It's particularly good because it is specifically for the novice. And will give you the A-Z on a project.

My local home improvement center has workshops that are free. You might check at your local home improvement center.

Floorbiz also has a good site, you can learn about floating floors, which can be one of the easiest to install yourself. Plus a lot of other good options.
