Question:

A slightly different 'Jesse' question?

Could I name a boy Jesse but just pronounced Jess? Because I prefer the e spelling for a boy, but the 'ee' pronounciation sounds a little girly whereas Jess sounds (in my opinion - watch Gilmore Girls and within 5 minutes you'll agree) very cool, manly and slightly quirky..

So yeah is Jesse pronounced Jess a nice name for a boy?

  1. i luv tht name you could spell it either way and an idea for a middle name is ryan

    jesse ryan

    jess ryan

  2. But Jesse is pronounced Jess-ee...you cant just change the pronounciation.

  3. I know someone named Jess and never thought anything of it (sounding like a girl's name I mean).  And yes, it also made me think of Jess on Gilmore Girls.  Jesse reminds me of Uncle Jesse on Full House.

  4. Yes, spell it Jess if that's the pronunciation you want. If you use Jesse, then it is pronounced "Jessie"

  5. I think that really it ALL DEPENDS on who people know by that name.

For example if i knew somebody by the name jessica, who was called by the name 'Jess' I would remember it as a girls name.

If somebody knew a boy named Jess they would consider it a boy name.

I think everybody has their own opinions, and you should choose what you want. The people around you will grow to the name, and it will be fine. If you like it i think yoy should definetly choose it! What do you think? And GOOD LUCK xx

  6. I very much love the name...

  7. mmm I don't like it just b/c my niece is named jessica and thats how we spell it for short "jess" what is the extra e going to hurt I like jesse better

  8. It is but if you spell it with an E at the end people will pronounce it with and E at the end.

  9. Everyone will call him Jesse.  Just spell his name Jess.  Problem solved.

  10. Sure you can! But do be prepared for people to automatically pronounce it Jess-ee, because that IS the actual way of saying it.

I think it could cause less confusion by dropping the extra E, but since it's so close in spelling, it shouldn't cause too much of a problem - at best, most people will just think "Jess" is his nickname.

  11. I think for a boy named Jess you should spell it as Jesse but I think the name Jess sounds very feminine whereas Jessie doesn't.

  12. I think you could name him Jesse, but shorten it to Jess. I think whatever parents name their kids they end up shortening it, or changing it a little anyway when they are saying the name. I personally prefer the Jesse pronunciation for a boy than Jess, which I think sounds more feminine. That could just be because I like watching Hollyoaks and the character Jessica is often called Jess, so to me it seems a girl's name! Lol. Whatever you decide to actually use as the name you say to him, I would always, always stick with the Jesse spelling with an e on the end. Seeing your boy's name on registers and stuff as he grows up people will presume 'Jess' is probably a girl, whereas most would know that with the spelling 'Jesse' he is a boy. I think Jesse, is a nice, solid, fairly old fashioned but not too antiquated, male name.
