Not want to pay too much money - room for 25- 40 people, maybe a pub - (somewhere that possible a DJ can be hired) - in central london ish area

Try Vinoppolis near London Bridge. Maybe they will let you have the venue for free is your buying their booze.

The Nordic bar on Newman street, just off of oxford st, is quite cool and a really nice 'small' size. Basement bar with a scandanvian theme with lots of different vodkas etc although can be a bit pricey.

Theres also a really cool mexican/ margarita bar (cant remember name) on Maiden lane, just off of the strand heading towards covent garden. Perfect size for a small party and really cool venue but dont know if they hire out

Try to BBar in Victoria - they have a nice basement area with it's own bar.  Or Pimlico Wine Vaults (just behind the Queen Mother's sports centre in Victoria) - if you smile nicely to the staff they might let you put your own cds on.
