A species of moving tree?

I remember hearing one time about a tree whose branches slowly moved so that the tree traveled over time. Does anyone know the species and/or where I could get more information on it?

  1. Huh? Plants are non-motile (they cannot move) so I doubt this story is true. If so, it'd be very fascinating.

  2. Leaves or flowers can move but a root system remains anchored. Leaves can close at night or from the touch of an insect, the rain or a passing animal. It is called nictinastic movement when leaves close at night or thigmonastic movement when leaves close at touch like mimosas. They have compound leaves that fold right back to the stem so it could be describes as branch movement in error.

  3. Hey, Get out from your imagination world.

u should be reading the books of lord of the ring too much.

  4. The Banyan tree creates roots that hang down from its branches and create new trees that "move" out from the center, so to speak.

But no tree actually moves like an animal moves.  Some animals, like barnacles don't move once they get their adult stage either.
