A step closer for Holloway

The Save our Stow campaign has been on-going for quite some time now. The good news is that it seems to be progressing each day thanks to the support of the local community and general public.

SOS leader Ricky Holloway has announced that the Sullivan/Budimir group, potential purchasers, has been given access to the stadium by London and Quadrant, the current owners. This will allow a team of architects, surveyors, track specialists and other professional and interested parties to view the site.

The decision to grant access to the site was a result of the support the SOS has received. A total of 15,000 petitions and nearly 3,000 direct representations were made to the Walthamstow Council, and now with the council on-side, the developers have decided it would be the sensible thing to do.

No meetings have taken place at the stadium since August 2008, so it is highly likely that the track will have suffered a lot of deterioration. But that's where the experts and surveyors will come in.

It is expected that down the line after one or two visits, an offer will be made for the site. This will reflect the market value and its viability as an arena for leisure use. This will ultimately decide whether the whole campaign is successful or not.

An insider said: "If we can convince the planners that the land must retain leisure use, then L&Q will effectively be sitting on wasteland. And when we say planners, that's the council and even the Mayor of London and City Hall, who SOS will be meeting very soon."

The interest in Walthamstow’s return since its closure, has become a more popular and positive topic, since it became known that David Sullivan, joint owner of West Ham, was one of the investors interested in reviving the track.

You can still show further support by emailing planning.policy@walthamforest.gov.uk, to voice your opinion. You have until 5pm tomorrow to be part of the campaign, and your support will be highly appreciated.
