A stepping stone for Serbia in third round of FIVB Volleyball Championship 2010
Serbia’s National Volleyball Team is representing Pool P in the third round of the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship. The team has gained enough repute on account of their brilliant game in the previous two rounds of the championship. Serbia started the
campaign under the tag of Pool F in first round. They finished in the second place and lost only one match against Poland. They bagged 4 points at the end of the first round.
Serbia was joined by Cuba and Mexico in Pool H of the second round. The Serbs made their mark and demonstrated a flawless performance. They won both of their battles and confirmed their participation in the third round of the championship.
Here they are in the influential third round of FIVB Men’s World Championship for another test of their skill-set. Serbia is accompanied by strong teams of Russia and Argentina. Serbia clashed with Argentina in the first match of third round on 4th
October, 2010 in Florence, Italy. The bruising battle continued for 1 hour and 38 minutes. Finally, Serbs proved their steel against Argentina and thrashed them with a score of 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-22, and 25-18).
Inside scoop of the match
Serbians launched their authority on Argentina’s team from the start of first set. The game was opened with blazing shots and spectators experienced a thrilling sensation while watching the match. Serbia started out really well. Miljkovic Ivan of Serbian
‘force’ surprised Argentinean defence expert with strong serves. He formed a good combination with Podrascanin Marko to devastate the defence line of Argentina. They controlled the key player of Argentinean side Sole Sebastian and didn’t let him break their
rhythm.
The first set lasted for 19 minutes and ended in Serbian favour. Argentinean team was shaken off with a lead of 10 points from Serbia and lost the first set by receiving 15-25.
Javier Weber, the head coach of Argentinean team was quite upset with the shaky performance of his team. He instructed the players during timeout and pointed out the weak areas. The Argentineans entered the second set with a new determination. They overcame
their flaws and controlled the ball-reception errors. The game saw an improvement on their part. They were able to put up with the heavy strike of Serbia’s team, which started the second set with good energy. Following the coach’s insight, the team struggled
to take lead over Serbia. Despite of immense resistance from Serbian side, Argentina took its score higher.
The player wearing the Number 7 shirt, Conte Facundo of Argentina turned many heads around and became the centre of attention for his sharp spikes. Serbia was unbalanced and couldn’t stop Argentina from bringing the score to an even point. Argentina won
the second set with 25-21 and levelled the game-score.
The fired-up Serbs brainstormed a new strategy to destroy the enemy-lines. Third set was a complete punch of fury as Serbians threw everything in attack. Argentina had a hard time to penetrate the heavy spikes of Serbs. The team leader of Serbia, Captain
Nikola Grabic and his team-mates spearheaded to the 25-22 victory in third set. They regained the lead of 2-1 and dragged Argentina under their rule.
Serbia was in a strong position in fourth set and brought more ferocity in attack. Argentina played under pressure and they lost grip on the ball. They committed too many ball-handling errors and defence faults added more fuel to injury. Serbia built a lead
of 17-12 and further stretched the gap of points to the game point. Serbs dominated the Argentineans by posting 25-18. Serbia won the match and successfully qualified for the semi-final in Rome.
