  1. velocity(v)=(T/(m/l))^0.5

    200 m/s = (T/(50/200))^0.5

    40,000=(T/0.25)

    10,000N=T

  2. The speed of a wave in a string is equal to the square root of the tension divided by the linear mass density. So solving for tension. Tension = velocity squared times linear mass density. Substituting: T = (200 m/s)^2 times (50 kg / 200 m) = 1 x 10^4 N.
