A strong and stable cricket Administration needed in Sri Lanka
The outgoing Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss has said the country requires a strong and stable cricket administration that would allow the players to concentrate on the game instead of being distracted by berserk politics in the administration.
“Good teams usually have strong or good management backing the team up. That’s an area we can improve here. I am constantly amazed how well the players do, with all the distractions put in front of them. It seems to be the subcontinent way. That’s a skill
in itself,” he said.
Bayliss insisted the Sri Lankan squad had done quite well in international cricket for the past 18-months. He, nonetheless, regretted Sri Lanka’s loss in the semi-final of the World Cup 2011, on 2nd April. The Lankans lost to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 who won the
world title for the second time in their history since 1983.
Bayliss who will be relinquishing his post before Sri Lanka’s next series which begins on 26th May, 2011, against England in England, expressed dismay over the recent resignations of senior players, Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene from the posts
of captain and vice-captain. He was equally disappointed at the resignation of the three-member selection committee headed by former batsman, Aravinda de Silva.
Speaking on the matter of Sangakkara and Jayawardene, Bayliss said, “I think it’s a shame. They are the best two guys to take http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 forward. They probably had enough of putting up with distractions. They have done a great service to Sri Lanka. Guess
they deserve a break.”
The Aussie favoured the young all-rounder, Angelo Mathews to take over the captaincy of the Sri Lankan team in the future. He hoped that more international exposure would give Mathews’ confidence and add maturity to his game.
Bayliss has been replaced by his assistant coach, Stuart Law who is also a fellow Australian. However, Law has been appointed as an interim coach for Sri Lanka’s upcoming clash in England. According to details, Bayliss will be heading back to Australia to
coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823.
Meanwhile, Law has an impressive résumé of captaining Chennai Superstars in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was also awarded the Medal of Order of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the year 2007.
On the other hand, Sri Lankan Cricket is facing a dilemma due to the sudden resignations of Sangakkara, Jayawardene and the selection committee. The SLC will have to appoint a new skipper and setup a new selection committee before the start of next month
to get things running properly. Experts fear the resignations may leave a vacuum in the country’s cricket.
However, good thing for SLC is that veterans, Jayawardene and Sangakkara have rebuffed rumours of retirement and have insisted that they would like to carry on playing for Sri Lanka.
