A strong field to assemble for this year’s Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore
Athletics is definitely not over yet for the year as the winter season still has to witness a number of mega running events before the arrival of 2012. One such event, for which a strong field is expected to line-up, is the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore
(SCMS).
According to the news, besides last year’s winners and star performers, the meet will observe the elite marathon field hitting the course in Singapore.
The important point about the race is that modern technology is being used at its best to enhance the running experience for the participants.
All these efforts on part of the Singapore Sports Council (SSC), the organizers of the event, are aimed at earning the Gold Label Certification from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for the run.
While commenting on an overawing field that is being put together for the cherished run, the Chief Executive Officer of the SSC, Lim Teck Yin, who also happens to be the chairman of the organizing committee of the event for this year, said, “Elite athletes
are a unique asset to any race and we are delighted to have in our midst a strong and diverse field of world-class runners who will undoubtedly add to the spectacle of this year’s Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore”.
Adding to his remarks, the chief executive officer stated that they had put their best efforts, not only for attracting and inviting the fastest lot in the world, but also by offering huge cash prizes for the winners.
He said, “Their keen participation is testament to the efforts we have put into creating an attractive elite race, not just in terms of the prize money offered, but also a great race experience”.
The independent analysts are regarding the field for the Singapore marathon as the strongest field to date.
The best of the best, 26 in total, have been summoned from five countries, Eritrea, Ukraine, Kenya, Ethiopia and Russia. Joining them on the run will be other 20,000 runners.
As far as the cash prize money is concerned, the top finishers on both, men and women, contests will be rewarded with US $50,000 each.
Considering the amount of money, the race, which will be attended by 14 IAAF certified Gold level runners will definitely provide a worth watching contest.
