London researchers have said on Wednesday that bumblebee's lose a bit of their buzz when ill, and like humans, have a tougher time doing daily tasks until they recover.

Actually reading behind the headlines, this is part of a serious study of why bees are declining which would in fact impact on us.

    Refer to link.

  2. Is this a loaded question?

These kinds of 'studies' are only of interest to academics and bare no relation to mankind.

  3. This could prove to be the single most important study ever taken by mankind.Without bees we can kiss our sorry a***s goodbye.Recognising indicators of illness could be extremely important. Some people should read a book or two.

  4. I'm sure this story has a sting in it's tail somewhere.

  5. Bees are great. They help pollenate plants and they make honey. I think we should listen to their buzzing to see if they are feeling alright.

  6. and how much of the tax payers money did it cost to find it out??? achieves bugger all, unless they're going to make a bee lozenge for their poorly throats, lol

  7. I guess most people think one just needs to snap the fingers and food just appears. Maybe they think it grows in the cans or in the frozen food wrapper. Plants need bees for pollination and cross pollination. Did you know most plants are male or female and need bees to cross pollinate so our plants will flower or grow our food. If bees all die our food supply will be severely damaged. If this pollination has to be done by hand or another means the price of food will be out of reach for many.

  8. yes, they then humm

  9. They lose there buzz on Wednesday? I hope not, I need honey on my cereal.

  10. I wonder how much money they wasted on that.

Have you never seen a dying bee or wasp? They don't buzz, or if they do, its like bzz, splut , bzz bzz splut.

Catch one, whack it over the head and see.

  11. It has to do with honey production. Bees are also needed in to pollenate crops. No bees means no food for humans.

  12. i don't know. sounds pointless to me.

  13. Well, if any of you took 5th grade science, you would know that bees are a major plant pollinator and without them, plants would not bear fruit, or seeds. So, plants like, oh, say, corn, soybeans, rapeseed, wheat, peas, strawberries, etc. etc. etc. You know, all the kinds of foods that humans like to eat to survive, well, they all need bees to pollinate them.

So, there is this HUGE epidemic that bees are facing right now, many are sick, and if it takes them longer to recover and if they have a harder time working that means less plants pollinated, which means less food for us and the rest of the animals relying on those plants to survive.

I don't know about you, but food abundance sounds pretty relevant to me.

  14. Yep more wasted money.

  15. It is meant to see how much of your tax money can be wasted before you will do something about it.

  16. What a waste of time and money, but I bet the scientists were buzzing when they found this information out!!!

  17. Haha!! This is another thing that there wasting their money on. How stupid.I mean, dont worry about Global warming or a cancer cure, but knowing that bees lose their buzz hwne ill, well, looking back now i dont think life is worth living without knowing that!

  18. Don't be mean! The government gives someone a budget for research, they're not particular what it's into and therefore in order to not just spend that budget but exceed it they come up with something as irrelevant as this! If they don't exceed the present budget they won't get an increase in funding next year! Perhaps they ought to research pyramid building - not the ancient type, but the  civil service type? Bzzzzzzzz! Ain't it grand to have taxpayers money to spend!!

  19. Only if they have hives...
