hi, i'm looking for suggestions for a small feature tree to 3-4meters high, with a single upright trunk. I live in Australia near Sydney right on the water so there is a lot of coastal winds.

  1. Check the flemings.com (they are probably the biggest tree grower in Australia), site gives you many trees to look at.  Do you get salt spray where you are? or are you on a bay or river, this will make a big difference.  Your height is very restrictive you are really only looking at at tall shrub.  Would you perhaps consider a Native Frangapani  (Hymenosporum), taller than what you have suggested but will enjoy Sydney, fragrant blooms and house yard friendly.  Perhaps a Magnolia 'Little Gem' may also suit or a very tall variety of lillypilly.  Give the palm trees a miss.  Most are messy and look out of place - it's like Florida in the Native bush, also they don't caste much shade.

Gardening Australia site has a good plant finder that you may find useful.  If you are only going to have a limited number of trees pick something really good don't settle for ordinary such as flowing ash, theyre in lots of gardens and never look any good.

  3. Hi

Triangle palms are nice but can grow a bit taller than that, say about 15-20 feet, Majestic palms grow about 12 foot tall.

  4. Calamondin tree, it's a citrus family that can be grown as standard or lollipop tree that bears fragrant flowers and edible fruits that turns yellow-orange as matures. The fruit can be substitute as lemon sprinkle on foods.
