  1. When a body is immersed in a liquid it suffers an apparent loss of weight equal to the weight of the liquid displaced by the body.  The volume of the liquid displaced will be volume of the body.  If you try that on me fore more than five minutes you will get a dumb answer rather  'dead' as answer.  That is when your question will become dumb and dead.  with best wishes.

  2. Just a rough estimate.

    160 lbs /8lbs per gallon water = 20 gallons

since we float, add 2 gallons = 22 gallons or 83 liters

  3. 1 litre water = 1 kg

    human body approx 80%water

  4. Since most persons float in water, it means that the human body has a density similar to water.

For water it is 1 liter = 1kg.

For a tall (and fat) man of 90 kg it is 90 liters.

  5. this might be a dumb question, but have you ever thought of typing "Eureka" into the Google search box...forget the sites that take you to Eureka, California.

In short, a wily old Greek a few thousand years ago realized that the weight of his body displaced an equal volume of water in a bathtub. Even today, large ships are denoted as being of "28,000 tons DISPLACEMENT."

As far as 'mean' volume, you'd have to fix a specific moment in time, then be able to know the weight of every human on earth at that moment in time, then take the weight of the lightest one and the heaviest one, then divide the results in half, and that's your mean. You might want to take an educated, informed guess AND define your parameters...keep in mind that about 25% of Americans are clinically obese...this could take a LOT of work, huh?
