Question:

A substitute for butter on toast ?

For breakfast, over the last 10 years i have eaten 4/5 slices of Hovis granary with butter, while drinking couple of cups of green tea. That provides an energy charge that sometime can last until early afternoon.

I believe i am eating too much butter (750g per month), what's the best substitute considering that breakfast really gives me a real kick without feeling heavy. Thanks

  1. 750g is not that much, however you can mix butter and olive oil in a 1;1 ratio (let the butter thaw at room temp, or even warm it up a small amount) and when you rrefridgerate the mixture, it will be very spreadable

  2. Light cream cheese and no sugar jam.

  3. Hi just switch you butter for magerine, we find that flora is the best and you can even get a buttery version in this make. There is allsorts you can put on toast but peanut butter is even fattier that normall butter, Jam is great but not everyone likes something sweet in the morning same goes for honey and marmalade.

So margerine is the closest you are going to get to butter and to enjoy your breakfast I think/

  4. What about just plain jelly, or how about peanut butter and jelly. Cinnamon sugar, try it.

  5. Margerine

    Peanut Butter

    Marmite

    Strawberry Jam

  6. Well it depends on if you want to add anything on top

    Toast toppings:

    Jelly (or jam)

You can mix a  bit of jelly or jam with cream cheese & spread that

    lemon curd

    peanut butter (chunky or creamy)

    applesauce?

  7. Plain bread?

  8. jam or applebutter

  9. Low fat Quark ( a type of soft cheese) with real fruit jam.

I really love this - here in Germany it's a real classic. Maybe you can get it in Lidl or Aldi as these are both German supermarket chains.

    happy breakfasting!!

  10. In regards to Chna99 answer - Quark is lovely with Jam spread on toast - you can purchase Quark from Morrison's supermarkets lovely!!

  11. HI! Honey would be the best thing to use. It is the purist form of food and it never goes bad- even when it hardens up you can microwave it and use it. It will give you the blast that you need. One other thing that you could use is vegamite- it is from Australia but it is an acquired taste. It is made of fish products and they are the best brain food for you. I must warn you again that it is an acquired taste. Good luck and keep on looking!

  12. Marmite.

  13. peanut butter or molasses

  14. Salutations,

  19. I like a slice of tomato. Really healthy.

  20. Peanut butter or almond butter is an excellent source of protein. Protein keeps you full and energized through out the day. You can also try nutella.

  21. Peanut butter or nutella. (Yum!)

  22. Margarine, peanut butter, jelly, honey

  23. mashed avacado with a touch of honey in it.  it is goooooood...  you even get to have the healthy fats, vitamins, etc

  24. Cereal! There's a huge range ou there after all. Or you could try bacon sandwiches for a change.

  25. I can't believe its not butter spray

  26. Butter is not bad for you. Try mixing the butter with fruit spreads to thin it out.

  27. There are loads of products claiming to taste just like butter on the market. Take yourself down to your local supermarket & read up on the contents. If I was you I would opt for one that claims to reduce cholesterol whilst still retaining a buttery taste, & buy a small tub to try. Although I did once see an experiment where 2 lab rats were put into 2 separate cages. One cage had butter in it, the other, margarine. The rat in the butter cage ate the lot, yet the rat in the margarine cage tried some but then left it almost completely untouched! I don't know about you, but if a rat can turn its nose up, it makes you wonder just how healthy it is for us!
