Question:

A summary on the Vietnam War...?

I just thinking is this a good way to sum it all up:

The Vietnam War was a crusade from the US and its allies to prevent the people of Vietnam from voting in a free democratic election, which undoubtably would have lead to Ho Chi Minh and his communist Viet-Minh government to take power, as South Vietnamese president Diem would not have stood a chance.

How accurate am I there?

  1. Your accuracy is about 15 percent.

  2. Not accurate there or anywhere at all.Did you learn your history in a comic book?

Your summary falls into the "Ten Worst Vietnam Summaries". Don't get too excited, its only 8or9.

  3. Domino theory =[]

  4. I would be VERY care full about being so casual about this conflict if i were you.

There were in excess of 50,000 US serviceman killed in that conflict and countless more injured both physically and mentally to be refered to in such a blase manner

    Show some respect

  5. The French stirred things up and pulled out (sound familiar?), JFK sent in military advisors, and LBJ escalated to war based on the inflated Gulf of Tonkin incident.  Unfortunately, today's educational system is "history lite" so accuracy is hard to come by.

  6. You are inaccurate.

  7. Just as North Korea should take over the south so they can have free election Right?

President Diem was a Christian and hated by the Buddhist who made up the VC and fight for the north They were disbanded after the north toke over Many were put in re-ed camps, during the day they poked around for land mines with sticks

Vietnam went to war with China after we left and invaded Cambodia after we left But that is of no concern to you Right

You kind remembers me of Thailand after we pulled out of Vietnam they told us to get our military bases out [we had five major bases] We did but within months yes months begging America to send help

I lived in Bangkok for a few years that part of the world is a mess and just ripe to go communist which well make you happy and finish the job of flushing them down the toilet

  8. This would sum it up much better: The Vietnam War was fought because of our Containment Policy. It was planned to be a "Korean War" fought on different soil, but then the Viet Cong came along and messed that up.

You really don't know why we went into Vietnam, do you? Preventing democratic elections? No, friend, quite the opposite. To better understand Vietnam, please school yourself up on the Korean War.

  9. Drop the crusade part I think.  You don't mention the Cold War and icy relations between communist Russia or China and the US that existed.  Secondly, there is the Domino Principle which was if that country was allowed to go communist other adjoining countries would then follow suit and the whole peninsula would become communist or fall under communist control.  I think any summary would have to include those two things as they had a lot of influence on the decisions and policies that were carried out.

  10. Democratic elections may have had a little to do with it but there are many factors as to why America got involved.  Historians still argue today the main reason as to why we got involved.  Spread of communism seemed to be the main concern.  Vietnam was a pseudo war between Russia and the US.
