A summer job for a 14 year old?

I've helped teach swimming lessons last year when i was 13. [I'm a competitive swimmer.] I choose not to do this job this summer.

I am NOT babysitting. I don't like kids. :]] And my parents dont favor me babysitting.

Any ideas? I wanted to work at sonic as a carhop, but I think i might be a tad young..

I make all A's and take highschool credit courses during 8th grade. Maybe this helps?

THANKS! [=

  1. Your ability to work is very much dependent upon your state's labor laws.  I sincerely doubt that you are able to formally work much - possibly bussing tables in a locally operated place or potentially work a seasonal job.  I highly doubt you will be able to work at a national chain like Sonic or anywhere around children because of your age.  Most large corporations hire only 18 and up because of past lawsuits.  Ask your school guidance counselor or resourceful teacher what they know about your state's laws. They could probably tell you places that hire 14 year old students, if any exist in your area.

(I think your best bet would probably be to stay with the swimming lessons until you are 16.)

  2. I don't know how old you have to be where you live to get a job, but you might be able to get a work permit. Try some of these places:

    1.Wal-Mart

    2.Target

    3.McDonald's

    4.Applebee's

    5.Ryan's

    6.Sonic(never know until you try)

    7.Schools/Summer Programs

    8.A Dollar Store(dollar tree/dollar zone)

    9.Dollar General

    10.FREDS

    Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!

  3. Check out local retail stores and/or grocery stores or market places.

    Newspaper delivery route, perhaps?

Collect bottles and cans for extra cash & deposit them.

    Tutor? Maybe...

Check for any pet care, etc. jobs at http://www.care.com/ -really useful!

Do odd jobs for neighbours/elderly: rake/mow lawns, turn on sprinklers, water/plant plants, spread mulch, cut hedges, paint fences/houses/shutters/etc., help replace storm windows, etc.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what else.
