  1. Ceiling fans actually can turn both directions. They were designed this way ...turning them one direction pulls the air up, flipping the switch so the blade rotates in the opposite direction pushes the air down. The direction of the rotation helps to cool the house in the summer, or push the hot air down in the winter.

    Table fans rotate clockwise because that is the direction required to push the air towards you and cool you off. If it went the other direction, it would pull the air inward and not be so effective.


  2. Ceiling fans have switches on the base of most of them that allow you to change the direction of the blades thereby moving the air in the room up or down. Depending on your preference.
