Question:

A teddy bear picnic?

I am having a teddy bear picnic for my daughters second birthday. I am going to invite the girls from her little church class, I think there are 4 or 5, so probably 5 kids total (including her brother)

I thought we could have peanut butter and honey sandwiches and bananas and juice boxes on a big picnic blanket in my living room (too hot to go outside in July)

We need games, so I thought we could go on a berry hunt- bears like berries. I would hide little waterballoons (filled with air) all over and the kids could find them. I would have them help me pop the balloons and we could find beads inside of them. We could string the beads on yarn and make little necklaces.

I thought they could put the necklaces in the little build-a-bear tins I found on clearance at the craft store. I also found berry flavored lip gloss to put in as a favor.

I thought I could make a bee-hive pinata.

We could play Pin the nose on the teddybear.

(the prizes would be little sticky note pads tha

  1. You could always play the "We're going on a bear hunt" game.

Everyone sits in a circle and puts there hands on their knees and and pat their knees (with their hands) along to the song.

here's a man singing the song with subtitles.

    Hope this helps!

  2. WOW!!! Oh my goodness. you are so creative. that has to be the sweet thing i have heard of!! :)

  3. Sounds like fun!!!  If sharing isn't an issue, they could each bring their own favorite stuffed teddy bear.  I had a bear party once and I had the parents write the child's name on a piece of masking tape stuck to the bears underside.  You could let the kids march around the house to the tune of teddy bears picnic or happy birthday as if they were in a parade.  Little kids like doing this type of thing as it can help get the wiggles out if they have a sugar high from cake/ice cream.  If the children zip through the activities planned, you could always have coloring pages of teddy bears and supply the kids with chunky crayons.  So long as there aren't any crayon eaters in the crowd.  When the party was over I had the kids eating teddy grahams and watching a paddington bear DVD. These are just time filler ideas if you end up with more time than party :)  Have fun & assign an adult to video tape & take photos, you'll be busy!

  4. Besides the games, try to  find the song "Teddy Bears' Picnic"  I believe it's in the public domain since the song is quite old.

    Here are the lyrics:

If you go down to the woods today

You're sure of a big surprise

If you go down to the woods today

    You better go in disguise

For every bear that ever there was

Will gather there for certain because

Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic

If you go down to the woods today

You're sure of a big surprise

If you go down to the woods today

    You better go in disguise

For every bear that ever there was

Will gather there for certain because

Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic

At six o'clock their mummys and daddys

will take them home to bed

Because they're tired little teddy bears

  5. Oh. my. gosh.

This is so cute. I LOVE it.

  6. sounds like the cutest party! make sure you tape it as im sure it will be one of the ones you'll wanna remember. Maybe a variation of duck duck goose? like teddy teddy bear or bear bear and then another animal that comes in a stuffed version that they can make up on the spot?

  7. This must be your first child!  Good luck keeping 2 and 3 year old children organized!

  8. Might want to make sure you put on the invitation that Moms or Dads or both are completely encourged to attend.  With all those beads, you'll need help making sure nobody chokes!   The one thing I enjoyed about a birthday party my son and I recently attended was that there weren't prizes there were "prizes"---which translates to everyone gets something even the babies that aren't going to play.
