Why do people refer to any 2 pc cue as a custom??

A custom is made to your specs not 1 of 2000 that are the same thing 1 out of 200 players do not have a custom cue made for them

But they all say they have a custom cue

Just wondering Later Johnny

  1. Just a non-"true" pool player that does not know the correct terminology....sort of like a non-tennis player saying that they had a  "volley" of  over 50 times(strokes)....a volley never touches the ground....they should have been saying that the had a "rally" that lasted 50 strokes....just a new player to the game like we all were......how many of us use coins along the rail to keep count....ever played someone that picks them up not knowing  what they are there for......sorta remember me doing that many moons back!

  2. You're right, Johnny.  What we need to do is encourage people to use terms like "limited edition" to refer to these kinds of cues.  This probably won't happen because my hunch is that people enjoy saying "custom" even when they know that it isn't.  One of my old motorcycles was a "custom" model right off the showroom.  Funny that as soon as I bought it, I had to "customize" it to make it how I wanted it.  Good point, though.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

Kevin makes a good point about one of a kind cues.  My cue for example is a one of a kind cue made by Ray Schuler, but it wasn't made for anyone in particular.  Ray came up with the design and made the cue.  I would have had it made to it's exact specs had I been there, so in a way I feel like it was custom made for me even if Ray and I didn't know it at the time.  I'm the only one that's ever owned that cue, so I think of it as a custom.

  3. Johnny you beat me to this ques. I should have ask it as that is a pet peeve of mine.  I cannot tell you how many people want me to buy their "custom" Schon, etc.

The last three or four Schick cues I bought Bill and I drew and redrew and reredrew the look I was after. All of these were miked to my specs. I even have a small peeve about one-of-a-kind cues being called custom...who were they custom designed for?

Anyway thanks for letting a collector vent.
