The former Nerazzurri player insists that his heart bleeds to see his former club in such peril; believes selling key players was a mistake.
Former Inter Milan defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Materazzi-c23709, has revealed that his heart bleeds for his old club, and believes that the Nerazzurri will not be able to manage UEFA Champions League qualification for the next season.
Inter Milan were without a win since January, but scored two goals in the last three minutes of the game against Chievo Verona to steal their first victory in last eight games.
The appalling run has seen the club slip to the seventh spot in the Serie A points table, and Materazzi believes that it is impossible for the Beneamata to bridge the eight-point gap to the crucial third spot.
While talking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 International said:
"My heart bleeds. I cannot bear to see an http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 like this. If they get past Marseille, it would be easier to reach the final of the Champions League than finish third!"
Materazzi believes that the Biscione woes are due to the expensive mistakes made by club sporting director, Marco Branca. He insisted that to consider the young acquisitions at par with some of the football’s greats is a grave
mistake. The former Italian international believes that the time has come for Branca to admit his mistakes.
"To think that [Ricky] Alvarez was the new Kaka, [Luc] Castaignos the new [Thierry] Henry and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maicon-c23157 was doing an injustice to them. [Inter president Massimo]. There might come a moment when one will have to say
that one was wrong."
The club recently sold http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Motta-c34897 and Samuel Eto'o, which has adversely affected their performances of late.
To make matters worse for Inter, they have been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League despite winning 2-1 against Olympique Marseille in the second-leg at San Siro. The tie ended 2-2 on aggregate, but the French side advanced
to the quarter-finals on the away goal rule.
