A Tormented departure; Nadal heads to Davis Cup final – Tennis News
Putting an end to Rafael Nadal’s distorted run, Tsonga destroyed the Spaniard in the ATP World Tour Final match in Hall 02, London, 7-6(2), 4-6, 6-3, and became the third French player to dispute the semi-final round of the event.
However, the loss of the Spaniard is not something that would amaze us. World No.2 has not been at his best lately.
Nadal did express his sentiments and analysis about the match in the after match conference. "Failing things I had always had, such as explosiveness and the impetus that caused burden on rivals,"
Congratulating Tsonga for a “worth” win, Nadal indicated two causes for his defeat at the London O2 Arena: One, a surface hard is the least favorable to deploy your game, and two, physical and mental fatigue accumulated over a
long season.
"It's been a tough year for me. Positive at times, hard in others. The truth is that I had great expectations for this tournament, because I knew coming in what conditions. It is normal what happened," said Nadal.
With the season ending with his win at Roland Garros but lost the titles of Wimbledon and U.S Open, Spaniard consideration is that he is "a little less passion for the game, probably from exhaustion."
"Over the holidays, better not think about them, because there will be. Although neither the need, I need to work, and that's what I do," he said.
Winning just one match on tour, against Mardy Fish, Spaniard suffered a beating of the season by Roger Federer followed by the Frenchman, Tsonga, kicking him out of the tournament. Well this goes somewhat in favor of the struggling
world No.2 as he will now look forward to the upcoming Davis Cup Final against Argentina.
Nevertheless, the point is that if the Spaniard goes on playing with the same attitude, he might be looking forward to his downfall. At the moment there are no solid reasons that have come forth for the loss of the Spaniard. It
is surprising to see the top notch falling down the wall in no time.
However, On Friday the Frenchman looks forward to his opponent in the semi-final round as Ferrer goes on to play against Tomas Berdych and two compatriots, Djokovic and Tipsarevic, clash out on the blue hard indoor circuit at O2
Arena, London.
As far as the Spaniard is concerned, he might just rest for his upcoming Davis Cup match and should think about not disappointing his team this time.
