A tough competition expected in Curragh Amateur Derby (Q.R.) Handicap
A total of 20 contestants have gathered at Curragh to compete in the Curragh Amateur Derby (Q.R.) Handicap in England on Saturday, September 15, 2012. The competition will be an interesting one, as some of the runners have been in decent form and will be
eying glory in the 1 mile 4 furlong event.
Most of the contestants are relatively inexperienced, which will make things somewhat uncertain at the end of the day. The spectators will definitely enjoy this situation, as they will get an opportunity to witness a nail biting battle.
The going has been described as yielding and the race will start at 17:00 GMT. The weather is expected to remain dry throughout the day, which will improve the track conditions more before the action begins.
Although, Double Double gave a lacklustre performance last time around, yet he has managed to get the attention of the bookies. He is still not expected to be dominant, as some of his rivals will make life extremely hard for him in the race.
The six-year-old gelding has got a decent record, as he has managed to win four races out of 13 attempts until now. He does not have very fond memories from Curragh, as he was unable to deliver a solid result at this venue in the past. He raced here just
once and finished in a disappointing 10th place overall.
The Charles O'Brien’s trainee will be under immense pressure, thus it will not be a very good idea to risk money on him.
However, King Of Aran could prove to be a huge threat for his opponents, as he will like the conditions today. He is a decent performer and has been delivering very good results over the past few months.
The five-year-old gelding has participated in 33 races until now, winning three of them whereas finished as a runner up on eight times. In addition to that, he has also secured the third spot on four occasions, which proves that he has the ability to fight
for the top three positions with consistency.
The M. J. Grassick’s trainee finished second in his most recent race, which means that he will be confident of delivering a strong result under young jockey, Mr S. G. Carey.
