well i went with a friend down to see my gelding....(because i heart him) and see his leg for my self it, s pretty bad. the vet has done as much as she can, but she says it's going to be a pretty bad scar.....apparently another horse bit his thigh just above his hock and it tore off...apparently.... well anyway, my gelding seems really frightened of my trainer now and my trainer keeps saying, well he's no good for training anymore, do you want to sell him to me...over and over again.....i asked my vet if she thought it was a bite and she said, she isn't sure...but she took some pictures and will ask other vets....would a trainer do this on purpose if he really wanted the horse.....? I mean it's a good horse...

  1. I really can't see someone injuring a horse like that on purpose...just for a CHANCE to buy it.

I'd wonder why he kept asking to buy it though...it would really irritate me.  Maybe he's worried you'll sue him...and if he 'pays' for the horse...then you won't.  I don't know.

I'd really wonder about a 'bite' though.  If mine is at a trainers...they had better not be pastured or running with other horses.  Think of it...we pay for 30, 60 days of training.  We all KNOW how herd introductions go...not so pretty to watch sometimes.  I would not be using a trainer that throws a bunch of strange horses together.  You run the risk of kicks and bites that can lame a horse.  What good is that for the training days that you are paying for.

Sounds like 'something' went wrong...whether with the trainer, another horse, or the property.  I'd bring him home and get him away from the trainer...that's just me.  And I would be listening to my horse.  He may only be afraid of the trainer, because the trainer may have doctored the wound and it hurt the horse.  Or he associates the trainer with the place that hurt him.  Or the trainer caused the injury.  Either way...the horse is not comfortable at all around the trainer.  Pointless to pay someone to work with your horse...who can't get along with your horse.  Or the horse doesn't get along with him...

Sorry for this happening to you and your horse...He is a gorgeous boy...

  2. that's disgusting! honey, if your horse is terrified of him, then somethings up.

however- if he REALLY wants to buy the horse, I can't think of a reason why he'd hurt him.. especially knowing if he did, the horse might not be worth as much as he is now.

think about it.. if you have a 10 million dollar jumping horse, and you break his leg- what good would he be to you? or anyone else for that matter.

previous accidents with horses take down their value a lot. if he bought the horse, chances are he wouldn't make much from him.

    </3

i'd set up video cameras all over the place.

-_- and then if i saw something

i'd beat the cookies out of him.

    hmphf.

    hope your horsey heals <3

  3. if he hurt the horse and thinks you might find out it was his fault, and you sell him the horse before finding out.  you have no legal way to sue him for damages/negligence

  4. He sounds inquestionable but i dont get why someone would hurt a horse jsut to buy it. He could have permantly damaged the horse so i wouldn't think it.

Maybe he is suggestion you should sell him because if anyone ask what happened to his leg, if he is trying to get a career going he could get blamed by the buyer and get out of business.

Or maybe he is just jealous of you living the life with your horse and he is just jealous lol i know strange theory.

It could be a number of reason just say i've been thinking if i should sell him ask what you should sell him for ect. Look at what he prices him (cheap he could be in to buy it) but look at his expression if you tell him.

I dont know just some pretty pathetic, random ideas haha

But dont worry about him though he sounds like a sleaze

    goodluck for the best :)

  5. i dont think ur trainers very good and has the best interest for the horse so keep ur eyes open and he might get better---o and get a nicer trainer... p.s. i feel bad about the bite-so sorry 4 you.

  6. you have to trust the horse .if it seems scared of the trainer then there is an absolute concrete reason for that.the trainer has done something to the horse,so you have to get the horse outa there.you know this so don't ask us and go do what you gotta do,the horses care is 100% in your hands.if any thing happens to nyour horse then you are guiltier than the trainer cos you own it and you can move it outa harms way.

  7. Listen to your horse, get him out of there.

  8. Accidents happen.  Without more evidence, I wouldn't begin to suspect something this bad from the trainer.

The horse could be afraid of the trainer because the trainer held him while he was being treated, or because the trainer treated him, or if he WAS bitten by another horse because the trainer used a whip to separate them.

If the trainer really likes the horse, and you were upset because he can't be a halter horse, then he might ask to buy him if you don't want him.  He may have meant he's no good for training NOW, you'll have to give him time off.  As we all know you're talking about selling all your horses, I assume he might know it too, and see a chance at a bargain.  You won't get much for a badly injured horse, and no one else will be able to see its potential.

I can't see a good trainer (and as an experienced horse person I'm assuming you chose a good trainer) putting his reputation on the line this way.

Horses do the darndest things, and injure themselves in the strangest ways.  It may heal up better than you think - horses are amazing healers!   But I don't think you can or should blame the trainer for doing something on purpose just because the horse is wary of him.

Do you have other reasons to doubt him?  This just isn't enough.

  9. redial, do you think he really did this, why if he wanted him would he take the chance in purposely hurt him near a vital area as his hocks, and by this accident, he can no longer halter. why would he do that to his career? I know Hes an awesome pleasure and reining  prospect but WHY. Its possible. I would get him out of there, bring him home and vet and doctor him at home. I think its an insensitive thing to say to you but that doesn't mean he did it on purpose. Im sorry to here its bad and the end of his halter career. You know how much I love him and my best advice is get him home.

  10. I doubt it, but your trainer sounds sleazy to me.  I wouldn't be surprised if the injury was the result of something stupid the trainer did...I haven't ever seen a horse bite another one in that location....ever.  And I can't even picture what situation would lead to such a bite.

  11. You mean like hurt your horse on purpose right?

...hmm I wonder what the vet will determine if it is really a bite or a human inflicted wound. If you horse is frightened of your trainer your trainer could have done something... There are some pretty wacky people out there. Is it because your horse is afraid of your trainer that your trainer says hes no good for training anymore? That is stupid. I would say keep your horse away from the trainer and be rough with the person and say "no" harshly that you won't sell your horse!

I would like to know what the vets think of the injury!

    I think it could happen...

  12. If your horse is afraid of the trainer, listen to him, and get him out of there!! So what if he has a scar. Did you only want him for halter? If you really love him, you'll love him with the scar!

  13. I would hope not...

It doesn't make much sense for her/him to injure a horse just to get you to sell it to them. I would think if they liked your horse so much they wouldn't want to 'damage' a good find.

You never know though... There are some pretty sick people wandering around out there.

    **Edit**

Gallop and E, I agree... Could've been a result of some 'training' method gone wrong.. Sounds like someone I'd want to get my horse away from regardless.

  14. Hard to say but if the horse is scared of the trainer there may have been some issue between the two of them.
