Question:

A travel question....?

My girlfriend has just phoned me and informed me that she wants to come home from her holiday a week early. Something to do with fighting with her pal - the dodgy one i mentioned in an earlier question.

Can she come home early? Does she have to pay for a separate flight or can the holiday rep arrange flights for her to come home? She flew with Thomson.

Any help on this thanks?

  1. She will likely have to pay:

Change fee + cost of new ticket - cost of old ticket

Of course since the new ticket is being bought last-minute, and the old ticket was likely bought way in advance, she will probably have to pay a lot.  Would be a better idea to either patch things up with her friend, or for them to go their separate ways for the remainder of the trip.

  2. If there are earlier flights available and there are free seats then the Rep can arrange this, however your g/f may have to lie and say a parent or partner has been taken ill at home - needs to be a good excuse really.

    Good luck ;)

  3. At the very best she'll have to pay a supplement. Worst case scenario she'll have to pay for a whole new flight.  I guarantee Thomson won't fly her home gratis.

  4. If it was a package holiday then probably not as insurance would ordinarily cover family emergencies and the flights are always booked solid/overbooked anyway.

Scheduled flight is a maybe but there is usually a supplement to pay for switching flights and even then it it subject to availability.

Standby flight is also an option but this could mean waiting a very long time.

How about finding a cheap hotel and just moving out until the flight back (although this still makes for an awkward flight back as I assume they will be seated together)

  5. She will need to go and speak to her holiday rep. The rep can either look into whether their are any flights avaiable to fly back early but she will have to pay to change her ticket or she can look into moving her to another accommodation for the remainder of her holiday. If she has booked a package deal with Thomson then they are usually pretty good if she as booked her accommodation through someone else and her flight with thomson then it could get a little complicated. Her best option is to talk to her rep first and if she has no joy then you could contact her travel agent here in the UK and they should be able to look into getting her home,
