A trio of graded stakes winning fillies headline the Charles Town Oaks on 17 September
The $400,000 Charles Town Oaks have reeled in a decent field of 10 three-year-old fillies, and on top of it what makes this year’s edition of the race interesting is that it has a trio of graded stakes' winning fillies who will heading the field at Hollywood
Casino at Charles Town Races on 17 September, 2011.
The first of the three Grade 1 stakes race winning filly, is the 3-year-old Her Smile, who is trained by Todd Pletcher for owner Bobby Flay.
Her Smile has had seven starts this season and out of those seven, she was able to finish on the money four times, with a win in the Grade 1 Prioress.
The Grade 1 Prioress was her first and only win of the season, but nevertheless, a big one to join the ranks of the grade 1 winning fillies.
Her Smile ran over a distance of six furlongs at Belmont Park on 4 July, 2011, under jockey J Castellano.
Nobody tried to pick up the pace, but when the field for Prioress turned home, Her Smile showed her true colours.
Given a pocket of space, she concentrated on exploiting it and got away from Alienation and Pomeroys Pistol to cover the 6 furlongs' distance in 1 minute and 9.44 seconds.
The 3-year-old filly, Hot Summer, is another promising prospect for the future.
The David Fawkes trained filly will be looking to bag herself a Grade 1 race after landing two Grade 3 races in her brief career.
Hot Summer, who likes to zip it on the dirt, landed her first Grade 3 race in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes at Aqueduct on 9 April, 2011, over a distance of 1 mile, under jockey L Saez.
The daughter of Malibu Moon is coming straight off a fantastic win in the Grade 3 Victory Ride Stakes, over a distance of 6 furlongs at Saratoga’s dirt course.
Last but not the least, Groupie Doll, is in the line-up, coming off a win in the Grade 3 Gardenia Stakes at Ellis Park on 13 August, 2011, covering a distance of 1 mile in 1 minute and 37.37 seconds.
