A truly needed/unheard of charity with a great cause?

I am looking for ideas for my girl scout gold award project. I live in Westchester county NY (my project has to help my community). I would really like to help out a charity maybe with a big event or some big project . Everyone's ideas aren't THAT helpful (for others) or that needy like game boxes for kids in the hospitals, I would like to really help others and this the only chance I have to do so. Any charity that has such a great cause but may be unheard of and gets bearly any help... I'm here! Please guys if you know any friends, family, or organization, with a cause or any ideas on how I can help as a project let me know.

I like kids, theater, dogs, nutrition, and fitness, if that gives anyone any ideas

Maybe you could help those who experience pregnancy and/or infant loss.  It is such a devastating thing that no one really talks about.  These moms need lots of help.  You might have to call a local counselor to see if there is a resource in the county you can partner up with.  One thing to do is make memory items for the moms.  There are websites on this topic too if you want to look that up.
