A unique and different way of getting charity money?

We are a local university business magazine (free of cost), slowly expanding in our region. Our Marketing Rep has told us about raising some dollars and contributing back to the community. Trouble is - I don't want to have a bakesale, lemonade stand, small auctions, etc. I need something out of the box which can be somehow related to the business magazine. Also - we would like it to be on a smaller scale. Our goal is to raise a $1000, preferrably for a homeless kids shelter.

The point it - we don't have a lot of money so we can't sponsor anything but we have the resources so that our staff members can sit and work on the idea and solicit money from other companies, individuals, university, students, etc.

This will help the community and increase our magazine's presence in the community.

Any ideas would be helpful.

  1. do a dunk tank (:

or host a water balloon fight.

charge groups a certain amount of money to enter,

    then have a tournament.

we did this, and it was loads of fun.

    we had a kids tournament

    and an adult tournament,

then the kids played the adults for the top place.

it was cheap, and something everyone could participate in. (:

  2. Well, since money is tight you could always use your staff and resources to help with things like drop boxes and collections.  What I mean is, take an organization that collects items instead of money.  For example, it is almost back to school time.  Many charities help lower income children with school supplies and clothes.  Offer to set up drop boxes and help with the collection of items.  You can do this for a homeless kids shelter too.

Do you have a shelter in mind already?  Call them and find out what their needs are.  Maybe it's food items that you can collect or things like toothbrushes etc.  Most companies won't mind putting a donation box or drop box on their premises.  Not when it's to a good cause.

  3. I don't know where you live, but I would like to donate to you some mugs, picture frames, car window signs for you to sell. I live in New York City Please email me at godmoneybusiness@yahoo.com Maybe I can help you.
