I live in the US now and my boyfriend and I are looking to relocate for a little while to somewhere warmer. It has to be a somewhat "safe" place (not really, just nothing like what i assume Columbia to be like).

We're looking for somewhere warm (maybe some place I would consider "tropical-like," being from Wisconsin) and where living would be considered "cheap" compared to the US.

One place we've looked into is Costa Rica, is that a good idea? We haven't been to any other countries outside of North America, so we really don't know (obviously we would check a place out before we sign up to live there). Please help!!!

  1. Having traveled to over 200 countries, in your situation, I would move to Bolivia, South America.  More specifically Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia.  Santa Cruz is the largest and wealthiest city in Bolivia.  The city of Santa Cruz is dirt cheap in comparison to the cost of living in the US. Yet at the same time you will not be living in poverty.   Santa Cruz has poverty stricken areas as well as extremely luxurious areas.  It's considered the least Bolivian of all Bolivian cities.

I have found through my travels a lot of Americans and Europeans there as well.  They mostly work in the petroleum field.  They mostly reside in Equipetrol or other neighborhoods outside of the city center.  Santa Cruz is unique in that it is a city set up in rings.  The 1st ring which is closest to the city center is the smallest ring.

You can rent a 5 bedroom, luxurious, apartment with a garage, maid/nanny quarters, a maid and a driver for $500/month. I would dine out with 5-10 friends, at five star restaurants, and the bill would come to $50 total including wine, appetizers, salad, main course, desserts and after dinner drinks. I love Bolivia, if you couldn't tell.

  2. One of the islands in the gulf of Thailand like Koh Samet. They are gorgeous and living is DIRT cheap. The Thai people are beautiful as well.

Or Bali, but it's not quite as safe anymore.

  3. Australia!!!

I live in Melbourne but if u want somewhere warm .. then the Gold Coast in Queensland is the place to be. Great beaches, relaxed lifestyle, sun, sand and surf!!

Plus, its probably a bit more safer and friendlier than going to a South American country like Costa Rica. You don't have to worry about speaking the language, there are plenty of job opportunities and it is relatively inexpensive.

    All the best!

  4. Singapore might be its safe and the living cost is alrite and all the fashion there is cheap(its brand so it will have high prices but its cheap if u get me)

Thailand is pretty safe and tropical places like pukhet are good. i spent six weeks there i didnt even get a little nervous we walked home at around midnight through side streets etc and didnt feel unsafe at all.

or fiji :D tropical and warm.
