  1. are you making clay or making shapes from the clay?

if making shapes you can ask the child to make 4 ball shapes with 4 different color amounts of clay, then ask the child to count the balls, and tell you the color of the clay. this is a great way to test a childs intellectual development.

if however you are making the clay with a child you can ask the child to touch the ingredients and tell you how or what they feel like or count how many ingredients you are using .

keep asking the child questions throughout the activity the more questions and tasks the child can do the more he / she will develop intellectually .

    hope this helps !!

  2. Often playing with clay involves imaginative play -- envisioning that you're making cookies for example, then rolling them out, cooking them, pretending they're hot, offering them to a friend. It then can also encourage language development.  If you're talking about actually making the clay, then you are looking at a recipe, following directions, measuring & gaining number skills.

  3. Well, I suppose one is often thinking of form and shape while using clay. I also find it makes me fairly perfectionist and anal about the shape and consistency of what I am making.

People using clay also have a lot of rules to remember so as not to have their art explode in the kiln.
