Is using alcohol (like, rubbing the rubbing kind) a good way to get rid of acne? My mom said she uses it and it seems to work for her. Is it safe though?

  1. No. Rubbing alcohol is really bad for acne skin. Your mom my have a different skin type from you so rubbing alcohol may have no effect. If you have sensitive or dry skin, rubbing alcohol may aggravate your acne. Also it dries out your skin and makes it produce more oil so you get more acne. The best way to get rid of acne is to use a cleanser with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Then follow with a toner than contains witch hazel. Last, use a lightweight moisturizer with at least 15 SPF. Contrary to the popular belief, putting on moisturizer actually helps get rid of acne, not the opposite. You should also get a facial mask containing salicylic acid and kaolin clay to use every few days. It also works as an overnight pimple zapper. Proactive, Neutrogena, and Clean and Clear are all good for your skin. Good luck!

  2. I would just stick with acne products like Clean & Clear, Proactive, and Clearasil that are meant to clear up acne. Rubbing alcohol would dry out the skin a lot, so I wouldn't recommend it.

  3. See if its working for you.. If it starts getting worse then stop using it..

  4. There's an old trick of mixing alcohol with corn starch to make a paste.  Then, apply to individual zits and let it stay on for a few hours.  But, it's a bit of an annoyance and doesn't always work.  It's right up there with the toothpaste on zits trick from days of old.

I use Clearskin by Avon and it's awesome.

Just remember that if you use Clearskin, Proactive, or something from the doctor .. YOU MUST USE SUNSCREEN!

  5. Rubbing alcohol can be abrasive to the skin, especially if it is sensitive. If you live near the ocean, preferably west coast, take a dip in the water. The sea salt has some awesome restorative properties, and annihilates the bacteria, leaving your skin relatively clear within 2 days. If this is not possible, buy sea salt and steam it over your face, not only will steaming open up the pores and let certain toxins flow out, but the sea salt vapor will also be going in and hopefully have a cleansing effect.

Colloidal silver and it's various forms (silver hydrosol, ionic silver) also have amazing bacteria killing properties as it is known to kill 650+ types of bacteria. In older times they would put silver dollars in milk to delay it from spoiling and even suck on silver coins to stave off diseases. You can buy colloidal silver at GNC and most homeopathic health stores. You can spray it on your face but it is most effective on the skin when you put it on a dressing (cloth or paper towel) and keep it damp with the silver on your face for extended periods of time.

EDIT: There are no known cases of Argyria caused by properly made colloidal silver (despite stories you may have read), as Argyria is only caused by silver nitrate solutions. The only way I could think of getting Argyria through colloidal silver is to take insane amounts of it, even then you might not get it because colloidal silver particles pass through your body so fast (when it's not killing bacteria) that they cannot cause blockages.

  6. I am a Registered Nurse and I specialize in skin care and teen acne.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU USE ALCOHOL OR LIME JUICE they are too strong for your skin and cause small tears in your skin. This actually will spread the bacteria!!

Unfortunately, alot of the commercial products dont do the trick when it comes to blackheads or pimples. Blackheads are bacteria filled pores that have oxidized because they've come out to the surface. You need a good skin care regimen plus a professional place that will give you a good facial and clean out your pores.

Your question is very broad and you need to get professional advice. I will explain why it's a broad question!

Your age plays a role! How old are you? Do you always have breakouts?

However, acne can result from several factors such an increase in hormone levels. In males testosterone or androgens. In females, androgens respectively. The increase in androgen levels can stimulate the oil glands to become enlarged and thus more oil production is produced. An increased oil production can clog the pores with oil or sebum ( white thick substance) which cause the cell walls of the pores in the skin to breakdown. This process allows bacteria to form and thus breakouts develop.

Genetics may also be a cause. It is a myth that greasy food or chocolate causes breakouts.

However, using make-up sponges that are not changed or washed often can contaminate the pores with bacteria which may develop into acneic breakouts.

If you are a teenager ( which I assume that you are) your hormones play a definite role in your breakouts.

If you have severe breakouts than you might need medication. There are many factors.

The most important thing is that you need products that are AGE APPROPRIATE! Every age group has different products appropriate for them. If you are young than you need milder products as to not dry out your beautiful young skin.

The problem with commercial skin products is that they are manufactured for MASSES OF PEOPLE and are not specifically made for different peoples' needs.

Your skin type is different than mine and your age differs from mine so how is it logical that we both use the same skin product for breakouts. We need different strengths of cleansers and toners. Do you kind of understand what I am getting at?

Here is my STRONG SUGGESTION for you. I refer all my students and patients to this website:

    www.aboutyourskincare.com

You need to consult with professionals and on this website YOU CAN ASK QUESTIONS FOR FREE AND A SKIN EXPERT/PHYSICIAN WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. It would be a shame if you dont take advantage of this free service.

Lastly, they have incredible products for breakouts and they make them specifically for every kind of skin type. That means that if your breakouts are more severe than mine, than while we both will buy the same product yours will have stronger ingredients than mine will.

They have a mild glycolic acid cleanser that's great for your type of skin and also a DRYING LOTION ( I have 3 bottles) that you put directly on your breakouts and the next day it's gone. It's truely magic in a bottle.

A basic guideline for properly taking care of your skin is this ( now if you're a young girl you will need fewer products than this):

    Night time:

    1. Exfoliate the skin

    2. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    3. Mild Glycolic Acid Toner ( cleans off the excess debris and balances the PH level of the skin).

    4. Drying Lotion used only on breakouts

    5. Moisturizer

    Morning:

    1. Mild Glycolic Acid Cleanser

    2. Moisturizing cream

The above is a standard you may need to only use one or two products. Visit: www.aboutyourskincare.com

As I suggested and click on the ASK FOR FREE section send them an email and you will get free expert skin care advice.

good Luck. their product X contains too much chemicals and skin tolerance.it don't dry up your precious skin too.

This Himalaya Herbs Neem Face Pack is also ideal for acne and blemish skin. Specially formulated for acne-prone skin, it prevents outbreak and recurrence of pimples. Rejuvenates and firms up the skin. Imparts natural glow.

Neem well known for its antibacterial properties, helps in controlling acne and pimples, by regulating excess oil secretion and clearing clogged pores. Turmeric acts as an antiseptic and improves complexion. Fuller's earth cools and soothes the skin.

  9. using rubbing alcohol may seem like the right thing to do but it will dry your face out which will in turn cause your sweat glands to reproduce quicker causing your face to become oily and starting the viciouse acne cycle all over again. ive been using proactive for over 10 years.

  10. This is what I do now and i very rarely get pimples. I started using the murad acne complex kit. Now i know it is expensive but i love the way it feels. I suggest just getting a really good face wash that removes all makeup. Also, Pick up some pure tea tree oil from like target, In the vitiam section. Use a coton ball and just put a little on my face. Another thing i do (gosh i do a lot but im just trying to give you a few ideas) is i take an aleve liquid gel, Break it open and put it on my problem area's. I leave it on for maybe 10 mins then wash it off. That really keeps my acne under control. I am trying something new tonight...It sounds really gross but i am so tempted to try it. http://www.acne.org/urine-therapy-review...

  11. Rubbing alchohal may have worked for your mom but you may have different skin that reacts differently

my personal experiance tells me rubbing alchohal dries out skin. I currently use proactive, and it works fine. the important thing is that you choose a skin care system right for you

    try these websites
