Hi, i'm going to Scotland very soon (beg of Sept) for a week and I still have no idea where to go. I haven't thought of an itinerary yet. So, I would need some advice.

What you need to know : I'll be landing in Glasgow, I want to see nice landscapes and also visit nice cities, I want to visit Edinburgh...

Thanks in advance !

  1. Look at the Visit Scotland website for lots of B&B places to stay at good rates.  Travel by rail is good value with a railcard and trains are clean and usually on time. Loch Lomond is good for scenery and Glasgow has lots of free museums to visit. Look up the Glasgow.gov.uk website for details of where to go. Get a city tour bus ticket which allows you to hop on and off ever 2 days for the one ticket price. Also consider an underground pass for a few days. Edinburgh is quite expensive so check out accomm carefully. Bring a raincoat just in case!!  Have a great time

  2. Try the Isle of Bute, 50 minutes by train (subsidised fares) from Glasgow Central Station to Wemyss Bay, then a 35 minute ferry crossing. Time has stood still. It is very very beautiful. Read all about it on the websites I give, You will not be disappointed. It is Scotland's best kept secret.

  3. book a b&b next to loch lomond. glasgow is less than an hour away and the scenery at loch lomond is amongst the best in the world.

  4. Head north on the A9 to Crieff Good base and accommodation in 4 star hotel is very reasonable  Crieff Hydro Hotel . Handy for |Edinburgh - Perth - Stirling and Inverness as well as Glesca .

  5. Edinburgh is well worth visiting, but it is very expensive.

There's a lot more to Scotland than Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Get yourself a railcard and travel around by train.

Make sure you take the journey by train to the Kyle of Lochalsh - it's supposed to be one of the world's great scenic railway journeys.

Inverness is a good city to visit in the North. Not too expensive if you're on a budget.

Aberdeen is OK, but a bit pricey.

Wherever you go in Scotland, there are loads of tourist information offices where you can get free advice about the local area, cheap hotels etc.

If you're not looking for luxury, youth hostels are good for overnight accommodation.
