An other way to understand the question is that 1:10 represents a fraction....that 18 inches is 1\10th of the actual size of the car.  That is why the 1st 'answerer' multiplied the 18 inches by 10.  Then they divided the 'real' total inches  (180) of the car by 12 (as in 12 inches is equal to 1 foot) to come up with the answer.   So, here's a new question for you...How long would a truck be if the scale of the model was 1:18 and the model was 10 inches long?  If you can figure this one out, I won't consider you a 'cheater' on your homework!  Blessings...

18" x 10 = 180" or 15 feet
