AA 5 star Mechanical Breakdown Insurance for 2nd hand car?

Question

A lot of garages offer this on 2nd-hand cars.

A./ Is it worth forking out approx £1000 for 3 years cover (capped at £1000 per claim and subject to an excess)

B./ Does anyone have any experience of making a claim under this insurance?
