I bought a bunch of AA NIMH batteries off the net. They have been working fine. But i finished rechargeing one set and one of the batteries are makin sparking noises. kind of like rice cripsies ceral. the others were a little warm but that happens after they are recharged. is that sparkin sound a batter discharging extra charge? a bad battery and should be thown away? Is that some bad gas being leaked? could it explode?

  1. Wow, I'd throw away the battery that was making a noise.  Are you sure it's really NiMH, and not some other chemistry (such as alkaline) that you're recharging?

  2. If you're using a charger that wasn't designed for the NiMh chemistry, you might be overcharging it.  They are expensive enough that they are worth charging properly.  There is much less toxicity concern with NiMh than with NiCd, so as long as it's performing properly, you're probably ok.

  3. Your battery is purring because its happy. Nothing to worry about.
