AAA raised my car insurance rates because my mom had an accident?

Last year my mom had a car accident, which she was at fault, and AAA raised the rates for all three cars on the same policy. My car was not involved in the accident in any way but they raised my rates by more than $200! My mom called the insurance company and they told her that all the cars on her policy had to be increased. Is it possible to switch companies so my rates wont be as much? And what about my mom? is she able to get a cheaper rate too if she switched? She was thinking about going to state farm. i was thinking about progressive.

  1. All you can do is get quotes from various companies to see if you can get cheaper rates

  2. definitely look around. They raised her rates so high because they don't want to insure her anymore. If you get your own policy, your mom's accident wont affect you. But either way her rates are going up. who knows, she may just find cheaper insurance, that's why you get those dreadful things called quotes.

  3. At fault accidents don't just affect the vehicle, it affects the entire policy.  You can search for cheaper rates yet if your taking your mother with you, your rates will still be high.

Searching for your own policy may be the wisest choice.

  4. If you are under 25, it would still be cheaper to be under your mom's policy.  It is just the way things are in the insurance world.

She can certain try. But they also know about the accidents.  If those companies are cheaper, they would have been even cheaper BEFORE the accident too.

    Good Luck...

  5. My suggestion is trying to get as much resource as you can before making final decision, here is a good one.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  6. You can take plenty of quotes and then take your decision based on the price they offer you.

See this http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html take the quote, they'll come back with prices from different insurers in your area. It's very quick and free of charge.

But to find a cheap price you should get several quotes, do some legwork till something better will come along.

Alternatively, get your mom to pay the extra $200 since she's the one that did the damage.

  7. You can shop around for better rates but insurance companies are pretty scandalous and will use any reason to get more money from everyone.
