South Africa’s one-day captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887, is all set to leave hosts England high and dry against his team’s bowling brigade in the forthcoming five-match One Day International (ODI) series.
According to the South African skipper, the English lack depth in their batting line-up, which will be exploited by the Proteas once the series gets underway.
Having dethroned the hosts from the number-one spot in Test cricket last week after winning the three-match Test series by 2-0, South Africa aim to take away England’s recently acquired top spot in the 50-over game by the end of the tour.
Talking about South African plans for the one-day series, de Villiers said, “I think they are a little bit light in the batting department, that might be something that we will be attacking. We'll see, They've got Bresnan that I think they rely on quite a bit coming in at seven.”
“The reason why they're playing conservatively up front is because they're a batter light. They don't go with the wicketkeeper at seven like most teams do,” he added.
The Proteas skipper was confident that even with England’s impressive bowling attack, his side carried some of the finest batsmen in the game and would counter the English offensive.
Asked if his side was looking to grab the first spot in one-day format by dethroning England, he denied http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 had any plans, as the team according to him, is more focussed on winning the series than caring about their ranking.
“It's definitely not our main goal. We're not here focused on world rankings, certainly not as much as the Test series. It would be nice to get that as a bonus but we feel we've got other stuff to focus on,” opined the middle-order batsman.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 under Alastair Cook would be eyeing a series win to avenge their Test debacle and salvage their number-one spot, which they attained on the back of 10 one-day victories this year.
England captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, believes that his side will try its best to beat the visitors and take an early lead by winning the first match on Friday, August 24.
