http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887, the veteran South African batsman, who poses to be a key member of Royal Challengers Bangalore's playing XI in the Champions League T20 2011, is fully confident of his fitness and skills, hoping to deliver match-winning performances in the
10-team tournament that is set to start from tomorrow, September 23.
The wicketkeeper batsman argued that his time in the training camps and fresh form will help the RCB thrive and clinch the title for the first time in the four-year history of the International event.
Talking to the media today, Villiers said, “Yeah, I think it opens up a few options for the team. And at the end of the day, I have to see what’s best for the tournament and that makes my role nice.”
He further told, “I’m okay doing both. Both are very similar, if I’m fielding, I have to dive, if I’m keeping, I have to bend down. My back is feeling good at the moment. I don’t have an issue right now. I really don’t mind which one I do as long as it’s
looked after and managed well.”
The dashing batter is optimistic of his team’s success in the high-profile contest, as he claims that they have some experienced players in the squad, along with a few talented youngsters. “Obviously, I hope we win it; would be nice to get a trophy in the
cabinet for the boys.”
The biggest strength for the Challengers is the West Indian batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221, who singlehandedly took the team to the final of the Indian Premier League 4, a few months back.
After the successful completion of the 3-day qualifying round, the 23-match tournament will start tomorrow with a clash between RCB and Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861.
Villiers has termed the event as ‘high-profile’ and ‘bigger than the IPL’ on the basis of the fact that some big names of International cricket are going to feature in it. He opines that the RCB players will have to deliver their utmost in order to win.
The 27-year-old has played 33 T20Is and 88 T20s so far in the eight years of his professional career. He has recently been appointed as captain of both ODI and T20I wing of his national team.
