http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, saying that his bowlers made the job very easy for him.
South Africa defeated the visitors by 2-1 in the Test series but cricket analysts around the world expected a tougher competition in the limited overs version of the series. However, the first match of the series has turned out to be an anti-climax as the
Islanders faced a massive defeat by 258 runs, which is one of the worst in their history.
The Proteas batted first and posted a huge total of 301 runs in their allotted 50 overs. The Sri Lankan side was unable to resist the pressure and toppled for 43.
While expressing his emotions after the match, De Villiers praised the performance of all three of his premier fast bowlers and said that the trio broke the back of the Sri Lankan batting. Due to the brilliant show by the fast bowlers, De Villiers had no
pressure on him throughout the innings.
The South African captain said, “The plan came together. I asked the boys to run in with the new ball and strike, and Morne and Lopsy and then http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 did exactly that - they made my job extremely easy today. Lots of credit must go to the bowlers, who ran in
with force.”
This is a dream start for De Villiers as captain of the South African team and he would be hopeful of his boys performing the same way in the future to make him prouder.
De Villiers expressed that he was expecting a better fight from the Sri Lankan batsmen but they failed to click. However, the hard hitting middle order batsman expects the Islanders to make a comeback in the series.
“It wasn’t the kind of test I was hoping for because we played really well. I know the hardest part is still coming. My test will come when we are under pressure, and I am prepared for that,” he added.
