http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 de Villiers heaps praise on South African players for winning the Twenty20 series – Cricket News Update
The South African skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887, was full of praise for his side after they held their nerve to win the third and final Twenty20 match against New Zealand played at the Eden Park, Auckland on Wednesday, February 22. They clinched the series 2-1,
thanks to a three run victory in the last match.
Even though, the South African ODI and T20 skipper was relieved with the victory, the attacking middle-order batsman still believes that there is room for improvement. He has also urged his players not to get carried away with the win, as he wants to make
winning a habit.
Lavishing praise on his compatriots, De Villiers said, “Amazing team effort, really proud of the men, we hung on at the end there. We do feel very good about the win, but we want to play a certain standard of cricket and we still need to do that more consistently.”
The Proteas were batted first in third T20 match. The Kiwi’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129, won the toss and decided to field first.
Batting first, the tourists posted a competitive total of 165 runs on the board with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jean-Cedric-Paul-c66748 Duminy topping the charts with an innings of 38 runs.
South Africa was cruising along, at 109 for the loss of three wickets from 12 overs, when Duminy and De Villiers were at the crease. But the visitors lost the sting when Duminy got out and were restricted to 165 from their allotted quota of 20-overs.
De Villiers conceded that batting first in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 was a tough task. He said, “Really tough batting first and assessing what was a good total, we lost momentum in the middle overs, unfortunately we had a slow start with ball in hand but I told the guys
to hang in there. I think the whole team has that (big match temperament) and we managed to get a few wickets to turn things around.”
